CHOOSING THE RIGHT CANDLE WAX

There’s nothing better than get

There’s nothing better than getting home from a long day from work and lighting a candle.

However, choosing the right candle wax is much more complex than you may think… Many candles are made from paraffin wax, a by-product of the oil industry that pollutes the air when burning and can irritate lungs. Candles made of paraffin wax release highly toxic benzene. Paraffin is a petroleum waste product that has to be deodorized and chemically bleached to be made into wax.

Most are also scented with synthetic fragrances that can cause headaches and exacerbate allergy symptoms. And did you know conventional scented candles are a huge source of indoor air pollution?

Scented candles usually have wicks that contain heavy metals, like lead. Even just a few hours of burning them can release levels of airborne heavy metals that are beyond the acceptable limit!

This is why environmentally friendly candles made with high quality coconut wax is far better for the environment and our collective health. It burns cleaner and is a renewable resource.

I bet you didn’t realise how toxic most candles are, right?! Instead of inhaling toxic chemicals disguised by artificial scents, why not try one of our handmade candles?

Nakendle Scents is our scented Coconut-Rapeseed wax candle line. It’s born from the desire to bring something truly unique and equally eco friendly to the candle market, allowing you to enjoy the magic of nature. It’s pure, it’s clean, it’s Vegan and ethical. It’s handmade with love and appreciation to all that’s from Mother Earth!

Our own unique blend of pure coconut wax and organic rapeseed wax is the heart of our candles. It took some time to find an alternative to the oh-so- common and oh-so-less-eco-friendly soy wax but the end result is worth the sleepless nights. Our wax burns clean.

Our products don’t release any toxic chemicals in the air so they are totally safe for your health and the environment. The wax burns slow and long and it also has an exceptional scent throw. But what we love the most is that no habitat is being destroyed, no families are losing their livelihood and no forests are cut down just so we can enjoy benefits of candle use.

All of our candle jars are made entirely by the pair of our hands. We didn’t want our amazing candles to be ‘just’ eco-friendly, but we wanted them to be genuinely handmade too. We've worked hard to create the most sustainable, eco-friendly candle possible that also carries scent beautifully.

Coconut Wax

If you're all about saving the planet, coconut wax candles are the perfect fit for you because they are the most eco-friendly type of candle to produce. That’s why we use it! They are non-toxic and burn cleaner because as mentioned previously, coconut wax emits no smoke and is soot-free.

Rapeseed Wax

From the seed of the rapeseed plant. Rapeseed has multiple uses and is one of the oldest vegetable oil sources (when flowering, it is also the main crop visited by honeybees!). Our rapeseed wax is sincerely eco-friendly, vegan and ethically sourced!

In our opinion, coconut and rapeseed waxes are currently the most sustainable source of wax (and have supply chains with the most ethically transparent practices!) with each singular wax requiring the properties of the other so as to function effectively.

Why is Soy Wax not as Eco-Friendly?

Soy wax candles are made from soy wax. Soy wax is a vegetable wax derived from soybean oil.

Yes, it is waaaaay better than paraffin in terms of toxic waste, cleanliness and burning time, but very far from the ethical and sustainable production that we also find super important to consider. Not to mention that we found that the vast majority of soy waxes are made from genetically modified soybeans.

In the end, what goes into a candle eventually comes out into your home. It ends up in the air you breathe! So we are very thoughtful with all our candle ingredients. It's why we don't use dyes and fragrance enhancers. Instead we use fragrances that are free of unhealthy ingredients is essential. There are a lot of scented candles that contain phthalates, a broad category of chemicals that includes BPA - that harmful stuff we don't want in water bottles and baby toys.

Earth-friendly consumer purchases are always a trend that’s in style!

So next time you light a candle, make sure that you are contributing to conscious consumption and environmental protection, rather than investing in prolonging exploitation of natural resources.
